SEX IN CIRCLE: A PHILOSOPHICAL TREATISE ON RITUAL MAGICK

Sex in circle is the most natural, powerful method of raising and releasing energy, if you and those you are working with are sex magicians. The majority of New Age Wiccans and most pagans in general do not practice ritual magick outside of symbolic ceremony. They would never participate in a skyclad ritual of any kind, much less practice real sex in circle (except as a solitary or in private with a significant other}. The ingrained moralities of other religions run deeper than most ‘enlightened’ pagans will admit.

I am a witch and I practice Magick. My first two teachers were conjurors; they ‘didn’t get it’ from reading books. They practiced their Magick by any and all means at their disposal, using their own natural talents. I was taught to understand and use the natural energies that I possessed and to join mine with others to create Magickal manifestations. It usually worked, and I realized that there really is strength in numbers. I regularly use sexual energy as a solitary. I have practiced sex Magick with individual partners as well. I also have performed ritual sex Magick in groups, though only a few times; two of which ended up causing complications in personal relationships for some of those involved. Problems can easily spring up if one is not prepared for this sort of activity.

My first group sex encounter was with an old established coven led by an egotistical, controlling, horny man who admitted that ‘to be a successful leader in this community one had to have a strong ego with lots of charisma’. In all fairness, he never claimed to be a spiritual leader. He used sex as the method of initiation, but did not perform any particular sex magick except as a sign of commitment made by his initiates to him and his coven. One night a woman was taken by him when it was obvious that wasn’t really ready. Afterward she ‘freaked out’ and ran away from the circle (she later became a devout Methodist). I found out later that he had harassed women to give themselves up sexually, allegedly including minors. I owned a metaphysical bookstore, and for years, people would come in and tell me about their distasteful experiences with this particular man and whoever was his priestess at the time. He is well-known and is generally seen as a buffoon by most elders in the local community.

My second experience was with another coven. Actual ritual sex Magick was not practical there, either. The coven had ‘hot tub sex’ after circle and whenever the priestess felt inclined. This usually was just orgiastic sex, and I am not criticizing it, but it created problems. There were people who were involved in committed relationships, sharing themselves with her and other coven members without the knowledge and consent of significant others. This eventually leaked out and relationships ended. The priestess also allegedly admitted allowing sex between adults and minors, in her own house. Two elders of this coven who were personal mentors of the priestess were allegedly involved in child pornography. I feel safe to say that spirituality and morality did not exist as a positive force in this group

I have had several positive, healing experiences with a group made up of several couples who were members of various other groups, mostly non-wiccan. We would ‘come together’ to do specific Magickal Workings. These rituals were always performed under the guidance of someone who was not an actual participant. This person led and choreographed every move, every step of the way (if you practice ritual drug use this should also be directed by someone not participating). If you practice magickal conjuring you will understand why this is so important. The people involved were older, emotionally well-adjusted and had a healthy attitude towards their bodies and their sexuality; they were equals and contributed to a higher power beyond their own individuality.

In order to practice sex in circle, please consider the following:

---Only do it if you want to; do not be led, coerced or intimidated into participating. Love and Trust should be the rule here.

---Feel comfortable with and confident about the people you will be working with. Know the motives of those involved.

---Everyone participating should be mentally, spiritually and physically mature as well as morally sound. As with drug use there are legal issues here that each person must come to terms with.

Health safety is a concern. If you practice with people committed to one another who do not have unprotected sex with others outside of the circle and you use your intuition (most real witches possess this) along with common sense, the safety issue should take care of itself.

Sex in circle is not for everyone; but I will end with this: everyone was created by a sexual act. Sex is natural and necessary in Nature. If you are a true witch, a true practitioner of the magickal arts, this subject is not really a matter of debate.
